Big Idea: Personal Perspective
Project Description:
For our third class, students will ideate a word they feel represents them in an "I Am" statement (I am smart, I am brave, I am an Artist, etc.). Students will then create a paper collage utilize the techniques from the previous two assignments of one point perspective and illusion. Teachers will show an example of completed work alongside instruction to show a step by step process.
Essential Understanding
The essential understanding for this project is for students to be able to observe perception and perspective techniques and then be able to express themselves through representational text and their emotions through color.
Intended Outcomes
Students will be able to identify and explain an adjective that they think describes a part of their personality
Students will be able to use various methods of 2d art to create their project
Students will use pattern and form to convey what they think represents them but also know how the movement on the page can convey emotions
Skills
The skills the students are working towards are:
Critical thinking during ideation and creation processes
Interpreting and discussion decisions in Artmaking
Self-Expression
Art Vocabulary
-Space
-Illusion
-Perspective
-Expression
-Observation
-Point of View
-Collage

Documentation:

These students ideated several interesting adjectives to represent themselves, one of them explained to me they wanted to use the word "crunchy" because thats what it sounds like when they get injured. They were very interested in coming up with fun adjectives to describe themselves.

These students are in the process of gluing down their illusion background and finding the letters to spell out their adjective. They were all individually able to point me to where the vanishing point is on an illusion and explain that is where the letters should come from in one point perspective.

These students have begun to glue their adjectives down with the words coming from their vanishing point. We had a discussion on how to make it seem more like the words were popping out and which techniques they would utilize to make it seem like the word was coming from the background. The student mentioned that shading the illusion background and the word would help give it more depth.

This student was beginning to shade his letters underneath and coming from the vanishing point to create depth, he explained how it was important to shade the triangles and not the letters because the triangles would be dark with shadows and the letters which don't have any layers would not be.

This student had a difficult time working alone, but I had him pinky promise me that he would try to glue down at least three letters. And he did, I took the time to work with him and explain the steps and he was able to do it alone when asked. I think it definitely helped him connect to the material and feel confident enough to work alone, and I was able to come check back in when he needed it.
